In 2024, Bob Hudak and Hans Boehringer founded ArtemisDx, Inc., a company that specializes in immunoassay development and contract manufacturing. Bob and Hans had workedd together at Quidel, Inc. in the late 90's. An opportunity to join forces arose and ArtemisDx was formed. Dr. Boehringer is the Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Artemis Dx, where he oversees the company's scientific direction, leads client-sponsored point-of-care development programs, and drives business development, including authoring grant proposals for government and NGO funding partners. He brings more than three decades of leadership in in vitro diagnostics (IVD) research and development, with deep expertise spanning assay development, product commercialization, regulatory strategy, and intellectual property analysis. Prior to co-founding Artemis Dx, he served as Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Biomerica Inc., where he directed the company's point-of-care assay development programs and secured more than $500,000 in contract development business. Earlier, as Vice President of Technology Development at Diagnostic Consulting Network, he managed custom assay development programs from design through regulatory submission and served as Principal Investigator on multiple NIH SBIR grants as well as funded programs from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, FIND, BARDA, and DTRA. Dr. Boehringer's earlier career included senior R&D leadership roles at Genzyme Diagnostics, Quidel Corporation, and Pacific Biotech, where he built and led multidisciplinary teams that brought rapid diagnostic tests for infectious disease and women's health to market, including influenza, RSV, Strep A, PDG and hCG assays. His work has repeatedly taken products from feasibility through FDA clearance, in some cases in a matter of weeks. He has also participated in numerous due diligence and integration efforts supporting company acquisitions. Before entering industry, Dr. Boehringer held academic research positions at the Wistar Institute and as Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, where his work focused on immunology and microbial pathogenesis. He has served as a Scientific Reviewer for NIH study sections continuously between 2019 and 2024. Dr. Boehringer holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Biochemistry from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich).
Robert (Bob) Hudak is Chief Operations Officer at Artemis Dx, Inc. in Carlsbad, California, where he leads corporate collaborations and ensures product development meets FDA quality system standards. With over four decades in the in-vitro diagnostics industry, Bob has directed the development and commercialization of more than 50 immunoassays across human and veterinary diagnostics, environmental testing, and agricultural genetics. Bob's executive career spans leadership roles at organizations including Quidel Corporation, ACON Laboratories, WaveSense, and Strategic Diagnostics, where he managed R&D teams as large as 39 people across sites in San Diego and Hangzhou, China. He has overseen the commercialization of 17 new products and led numerous product revisions, while establishing FDA QSR- and ISO 13485-compliant development and manufacturing processes that opened U.S. and international markets to his teams' work. An inventor on ten U.S. patents, Robert has also built and managed corporate intellectual property programs and authored more than 20 publications and conference presentations on immunoassay development for environmental and clinical applications. He holds a B.S. in Chemistry and Biology from Dickinson College and completed graduate studies in Biochemistry at Wilkes College. Earlier in his career, Robert served as President of two contract R&D firms, IDxDI and Merlin Labs, providing immunochemistry expertise to diagnostic companies worldwide.
Dr. Lewis brings more than 15 years of biotech leadership to Artemis Dx, with deep expertise in diagnostic assay development, biomarker validation, and translating novel technologies into validated clinical products. Prior to joining Artemis Dx, Dr. Lewis served as a founding executive at Xzom, Inc., where she was one of three leaders selected to establish R&D operations for the diagnostic startup, architecting its roadmap from biomarker discovery through FDA product approval. Before that, she spent six years at Biological Dynamics, Inc., rising to Director of Research and Director of Customer Applications & Innovation. There she led an Alzheimer's disease early detection program achieving greater than 90% sensitivity in clinical validation, helped to secure more than $3 million in competitive funding from the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and contributed to a successful FDA Breakthrough Device Designation for early pancreatic cancer detection. She has also held research and faculty positions at UC San Diego and the Scripps Research Institute, where she served as a Principal Investigator on an NIH National Cancer Institute R29 First Award. Dr. Lewis is an inventor on a granted U.S. patent for electrokinetic microelectrode devices for biomarker analysis and is the author of more than 20 peer-reviewed publications in journals including PNAS, ACS Nano, Nature Scientific Reports, and the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease. She holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Pennsylvania, completed her postdoctoral training at the Scripps Research Institute, and earned her A.B. in Molecular Biology from Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges.
